The Upcoming Despicable Me 4 will have a ‘Genius Strategy’ that Many Fans Feel is Taken from the Immense Success of The Incredibles 2.

Despicable Me 4, which will reportedly hit the theatres in July 2024, will be the sequel to Gru’s story that was presented to the viewers way back (in 2017). The upcoming will continue with the series’ original narrative and is likely benefit the franchise with an approximate profit of $5 billion.

However, many fans and critics across various social media platforms have advised the makers of the film to not turn Gru’s character in any negative direction, since Gru’s nature as a relatable character has sat well with the audience.

The upcoming Despicable Me 4 has got the franchise fans across the world really hyped. According to various media reports and articles that are currently being circulated regarding the upcoming movie, the Illumination sequel has decided to imply a ‘genius strategy’ that the fellow Pixar franchise has already used in its past project. A strategy that generated a whopping revenue of $1.2 billion for the organization.

The ‘Genius Strategy’

This ‘genius strategy’ was teased by the filmmakers very recently through the upcoming movie’s trailer, and fans are excited to say the least. Despicable Me 4 will narrate Gru’s life story and adventures with a new addition to his family, a baby. Several fans and critics across social media have pointed out that this new baby has several unmistakable similarities to baby Jack from the Incredibles 2.

In the trailer, Gru can be seen struggling to establish that fatherly bond with his son, Gru Jr. Gru Jr himself seems to not like his father much, as his expressions clearly convey the message that he’d much rather be with his mother and sister, than his father. The trailer also showed how Gru tries to teach his son about his ‘line of work,’ a scene that was hilarious yet hearty to watch.

Even though baby Gru doesn’t have any superpowers as of it, the new character also started waving his way into the story by accompanying his father on his missions. Similar to baby Jack in The Incredibles 2, Gru accompanying his father on his adventurous missions is a clear indication that in the future, baby Gru will take up on his father’s legacy.

Several media outlets and organizations have called Gru Jr’s introduction into the franchise as the ‘genius strategy’ that would land filmmakers with immense revenue, much like how it did for The Incredibles 2.

Gru’s New ‘Partner in Crime’

However, the introduction of baby Gru is not the only reason why fans and critics have linked the two films together. In the newly launched trailer of Despicable Me 4, Gru Jr was seen interacting with a skunk, a scene that many viewers found strikingly similar to a moment shared between Jack and a racoon in The Incredibles 2.

Although the franchise had very recently launched Minions (2022) for its fans and viewers, the release of Despicable 4 in July 2024 will be the first official sequel and continuation to Gru’s story, a story that has been left unattended since 2017. Between the years of 2017 and 2024, it has been calculated that the franchise has made an approximate of $5 billion.
