“Trump Should be Barred from the Ballots”, says Voters of Illinois and Massachusetts

The January 6 Insurrection

We all know the incident of January 6, 2021. The 2nd anniversary of the case is coming up, and the voters located in Illinois and Massachusetts joined the nationwide attempt to kick out the former Republican U.S. President Donald Trump off the state ballots based upon constitutional grounds.

Trump’s supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol three years ago when he attempted to overturn his 2020 loss to democratic President Joe Biden. However, a spreading number of scholars, lawyers, advocacy groups, and voters have debated that Trump must be disqualified from holding office again under the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Violation of Oath by Trump

According to the amendment, anyone who has taken the oath to the constitution in the past but after that was seen to be included in “insurrection or rebellion” from holding “any office, civil or military.” Trump has always been in talks for his criminal cases. He was even included in two cases related to 2020 election interference. Since Biden is going to run for re-election this year, Trump is also going to be the Republican front-runner to challenge him.

But this is not being digested by the public as Trump violated his oath of office. His violent insurrection that attacked the U.S. Capitol, threatened the assassination of the vice president and congressional leaders. He even rattled the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in the nation’s history. If the oath-breaking violators are allowed back into power, then the republic can not be protected. Trump is legally barred from the ballot for his actions.

Free Speech For People is collaborating with local attorneys. They will represent voters who were behind the previously filed 14th Amendment cases which took place in Michigan, Minnesota, and Oregon. Moreover, the objections were filed on Thursday with the Illinois State Board of Elections and Massachusetts State Ballot Law Commission. As Trump bid for re-election, he has violated the prestigious oath and constitutional mandate. In Illinois, the electoral board has a mandatory duty to keep disqualified candidates off the ballot. Hence, trump should not be allowed to run for President.

Pending Decisions of the Court

The right-wing U.S. Supreme Court has three Trump appointees. When the filings came on Thursday, the Supreme Court was asked to review the Colorado Supreme Court’s December decision. The decision was to kick Trump off the ballots. The Democratic Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows also removed Trump from her state’s primary ballot last week. Both these decisions are on hold and are pending court review. Appeals have been filed by Trump where he is blaming the disqualifications on Biden, even though he is not involved in any 14th Amendment cases.

Many Trump supporters claim that Trump is being barred from the ballots as he has a higher chance of winning than Biden. American voters are being deprived of their right to vote for the candidate of their choice.

When we look into the Colorado case that was launched in September, it is clear that Trump should be disqualified from holding office under the 14th Amendment after the January 6 insurrection. The Colorado Supreme Court has taken the decision to protect its citizens and the U.S. Supreme Court should also take a strong decision.
