Ex-LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Files for Divorce From Second Wife Patricia

Politician Villaraigosa and his wife filed a divorce

The politician Antonio Villaraigosa has decided to leave his wife. He has filed for divorce from his wife, Patricia Goveia, after seven years of being married.

The former Mayor of Los Angeles filed for a divorce and decided to separate from his wife at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, according to the court documents. In addition to that Villaraigosa asks the court in the filing, to terminate its ability to accolade spousal support to either of these two. This is the second divorce Antonio has filed after seven years of marriage.

Splitting because of “irreconcilable differences”

According to the document, the reason for his split has been cited as “irreconcilable differences” from Govea. Villaraigosa. He served as the 41st Mayor of Los Angeles from 2005 to 2013. He listed the date of separation from his wife as last week, January 10.

The marriage lasted for approximately seven years and four and a half months. However, the couple does not have any children together, which has eliminated any issues with child support or child custody.

Agreements made by the former couple

If we look at the matter of spousal support, it has been requested by the Democratic Party member that neither he nor Govea is eligible to receive alimony. No one knows whether the two have a prenuptial agreement, but this case usually arises when neither party demands spousal support.

When the question of separation of their assets arose, the politician stated that the exact nature and amount of Petitioner’s separate estate is presently unknown.

The wedding took place in August 2016. It was an intimate ceremony that was held in central Mexico, and only about 100 friends and family were in attendance. The event was indeed lavish and took place at a hotel in San Miguel de Allende. The then-newlyweds had a “Mexican musical parade” through the neighborhood the night before the wedding.

Goveia works in the fashion industry and was born in Mexico. She came to the U.S. in 2004. Villaraigosa had filed for divorce from Govea even in February 2022, and their date of separation was June 2018 in the former filing. However, the pair decided to give their marriage another shot.

He was divorced by his last wife due to his affair

Villaraigosa’s previous wife was Corina Raigosa. They had been married for 20 years before she filed for divorce in 2007 after he had an affair with Spanish-language television reporter Mirthala Salinas.

Villaraigosa talked about the possibility of running for Governor of California in the coming years in May 2023. First, he announced his candidacy for governor in 2018. He came in third in the blanket primary election that year.

Nevertheless, Villaraigosa has not lost any hope of being a governor as he stated that he still wants to serve. He said that he has spent his life in service and he is going to continue to serve. He will see what permutations in 2024 and 2026 and many more upcoming years.

He was questioned about how that portrays his political ambition and if it means he will run, Villaraigosa answered, “It’s not a no, but it’s not a yes either. What it is, it is the truth. I aim to serve in this state and our country because I believe in her.”
