After a week of defense setbacks, SNL cold open mocks Trump’s trials and legal team

Legal defense team of Trump mocked on SNL

The legal defense team of former President Donald Trump was mocked in a Saturday Night Live skit. The episode premiered over the weekend right after he appeared in court as part of his defamation trial against E Jean Carroll.

Ms Carroll is a journalist who recently profitably sued the former president in 2019. She claimed that he raped her and then lied about it, is seeking further damages in the case. The jury will determine at the end of the ongoing trial.

Alina Habba’s character said that she is still learning

The former president is being represented by Alina Habba in the case. The actress Chloe Finman plays the role of Alina in the skit that appeared on TV on Saturday.

“Hello! I am Alina Habba,” Fineman acted in front of the Manhattan Courthouse set. “I’m the attorney for President Trump in the second defamation trial of E Jean Carroll.”

There was a joke that seemingly mocked Ms. Habba’s experience level, where the actress said that she wanted to make this perfectly clear that she is new at this and that she is still learning. Fineman even said during the skit how the judge, Lewis A Kaplan, in the case, has been “unfair from the beginning” toward her client.

The joke was about how Ms Habba was scolded by the judge and even received criticism for her cross-examination of Ms Carroll. This resulted in a sidebar and sustained objections.

Trump was fined $10,000 for breaking a gag order in a separate civil trial where the Trump Organization has been accused of fraud.

James Austin played Trump, said his attorneys will not be paid

James Austin Johnson played the former president. He thanked Alina and told her that she was great on TV.  Then he poked fun at his legal team. He called Ms Habba the worst lawyer he has ever had, which is quite an accomplishment.

“Look at this team. This is the bottom of the barrel, folks. This is who said yes.” He added: “I’m in the lead for president and this is the best I can get. Feels like a red flag, no?”

Johnson then turns to his attorneys and tells them that he has no intention to compensate them for their labor. Then he proceeded to comment on the presiding judge.

He said that they were at the courthouse and we will be abiding by this horrible gag order. Hence, he will not be saying that the judge is an idiot or where he lives, or what kind of crappy car he drives. Then he trailed off on a tangent about the state of the country.

He said that they just got back from Iowa, where they won very big. Then he congratulated Mr. DeSantis on a truly embarrassing showing. He called him Ron DeStupid.

Even Vivek Ramaswamy received a mention in the skit. Mr. Ramaswamy dropped out of the race earlier this week and the pair sparked rumors of the businessman potentially becoming Trump’s running mate.

Johnson said Mr. Ramaswamy has agreed to live in Trump’s suit pocket.

“I love my little Ratatouille,” Johnson claimed to Ramaswamy, as he referred the eponymous 2007 film.
