8 Month Old Pregnant Woman Dies after Boyfriend Supplied her Fentanyl and Meth

Meth and fentanyl turned out to be the cause of death

Drug abuse has always been a challenge to the society. An eight months pregnant woman died after an overdose of meth and fentanyl. According to the North Carolina deputies, her boyfriend gave her the drugs that killed her and her unborn baby. The 31-year-old woman, identified as Jessica Loman, was found dead in Stokesdale after receiving a report of a suspected drug overdose on March 12, according to a Jan. 4 news release from the sheriff’s office.  After the body was determined by the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office, it was found that the cause of death was the presence of acute fentanyl and methamphetamine, as confirmed by the deputies.

Fatality of these drugs

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid and is great at managing pain. It is used as a medicine for cancer patients who suffer from severe pain. However, it is illegal manufacturing and abuse causes a huge problem. Even 2 milligrams of it is considered fatal. It is more powerful than morphine and heroin. More than 150 deaths have been reported in the U.S. due to the overuse of synthetic opioids.  This opioid has many effects during pregnancy which include poor growth of the baby, stillbirth, preterm delivery, and fetal distress during labor. If it is used in a huge amount then the baby can also be seen with withdrawal symptoms.

Whereas, the use of methamphetamine during pregnancy can lead to shorter gestational ages and lower birth weight. However, if the use of meth is stopped during pregnancy, then the birth outcomes can improve. Deaths due to meth have skyrocketed in the past years because it has become easily available to many.

Boyfriend supplied the drugs

When the case was further investigated, Loman’s boyfriend’s name came up. Matthew Isaac Pearman was under suspicion for the death of his girlfriend and his unborn child. He had to be arrested according to the deputies. He supplied the drugs to his pregnant girlfriend, which poisoned her and led to her death, as reported by the sheriff’s office. Matthew was charged with second-degree murder of his girlfriend along with first-degree murder of his unborn child. He is currently booked at the County Detention Centre with no bond as informed by the deputies. He is scheduled to make his first appearance at the court on January 9.
